As we all know by now - since it's splashed prominently across the headlines - Prince Harry has been forced to return from active duty in Aghanistan. I'm not going to go on too much about this piece of theatre, which seems a simple contrivance that has given Harry the opportunity to look good before orchestrating the leak that 'forced' him home. What irritates me is something Harry said when interviewed upon his return. Having dismissed the notion that he was a 'hero' (but in such a way as to suggest he thinks he probably is), he comes out with this gem: "You do what you have to do, what's necessary to save your own guys. If you need to drop a bomb, worst case scenario, then you will, but then that's just the way it is.
"It's not nice to drop bombs and give that position to people to have to do but as I say, to save lives that's what happens." (source: BBC) This is such a comprehansively arse-about-face, fully indoctrinated way of thinking and is good evidence of how this War on Terror has screwed with us. He's arguing here that, in a war we started, it is necessary to drop bombs in order to save lives. It's like arguing that you attacked someone and was subsequently forced to kill them in self-defence.

That statement truly is despicable, although it goes passed mostly unnoticed because unfortunately too many people believe it to be true. People actually believe by being in Afghanistan we are stopping terror here at home.
I think the whole thing with Harry was contrived. It's great for him as his popularity was not particularly high. It was just another excuse to show the Afghan war in a positive light and show how great our royalty are.
