This was inspired by a post I made elsewhere. I just wanted to share some of the songs I thought about when promted to think of my favourite lyrics and also to find out what others look out for.
Here's two that really move me.
1. Under The Bridge - The Red Hot Chili Peppers
This was written by lead singer Anthony Keidis as a reaction to the death of Hillel Slovak, the group's original guitarist.
Like Keidis, Slovak was addicted to heroin. The song is his account of the loneliness he felt after Slovak's death and of his inability to resist the very same drugs that killed him.
2. Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon
When Zevon was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he set about writing and recording hs last album, which he ironically called 'The Wind'.
I think it's near-on impossible to remain unmoved by this song.
ETA: the video featuring the Zevon version takes an inordinate amount of time to load and even then, plays like a dog, if at all. I've left it here in case it gets fixed, but in the meantime, see the foot of the post for a video of a woman doing a cover version. It has a different feel, naturally, but it's a pleasant enough alternative.

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry
I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way
Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile
When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for awhile
There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you
Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for awhile
These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Keep me in your heart for awhile
