Back in February, when we had an enormous amount of stuff going on and it was all crammed onto the main page, we had problems with loading times. Since then everything has been either removed or relocated and all seemed okay.
However, I've been advised today that the forum is slow to load and has been like this for a while. Is anyone else finding this?
I'd appreciate feedback from Members and Guests alike please.

Has your site been upgraded to Proboards v4.5?

It has, yes.
Are you still experiencing slow loading? I don't - and my machine's a dinosoar - but if others are, I need to find out why asap.

It's been OK for me lately, but it's never brilliant - for any page I jump to, there is always a pause during the initial loading, before the topic or page then displays quickly. It's just a matter of how long that pause is. Now it seems bearable - other times it has put me off from coming here.

I do find that the loading-time is increasing as new things are added. Although, this is bound to happen. I don't know whether it's my anchient machine, or that there are too many boards on the site. These may all be the reasons.
Perhaps ask in ProBoards Support to see the ways in which we can reduce the loading-time?

...other times it has put me off from coming here. Well, that's a big problem as far as I'm concerned and it needs addressing. I have to say, my machine is an absolute dinosaur and yet it loads pretty much as fast as any ProBoards forum I visit. I was really very confident we'd knocked this problem on the head when we created the Media Centre and move the BBC and economic data etc off of the main page. I think I'll do as Jack suggested and raise this with Support to see if anyone can find a glitch in our code.

I raised this issue in ProBoards Support and got two quick response. Here they are: Hi.
Your forum loads fine for me. about 2-3 seconds. Ask them how they connect to the internet. EG: dial up, broardband modem etc. They may want to delete their cache too and reboot their modems. forums will load slower if you are using lots of codes on your forum.
Hope this helped. and... As [the previous contributor] said, it loads up perfectly fine for me. Your headers/footers don't seem particularly large, so it's probably at the users end, rather than your forum itself. Again, as was suggested before, deleting temp. files etc might help speed things up for them =] So teddy - and anyone else who's experiencing sluggish loading times - could you try deleting your cache and seeing if that does the trick? Of course, it'll mean losing saved passwords etc, but it will hopefully improve your browsing performance, not just for this site but also more generally.
